This is War

Life is a war. We are all in it to win.
culled from the collection:
Poems from the War Front Pt 1.
David Agogo.
Release Date: January, 2012 (D.V.)

this is war, we use whatever weapon we know best
cos only through the fighting can we ever know rest
this is war, we pick our allies carefully or waltz to defeat
cos no matter what, this dance will end with bodies in the street
this is war, where men are savage and its luxury to care
where heroes are born while tanks advance and missiles fill the air
this is war, where fear is rife and courage hard to find
Where peasants bargain for life while soldiers advance blind
This is war, I'll win cos I can't lose
I'm doomed if I cant chose
This is war, I'll die if I cant see
Or decide who I can't be
This is war!

Project TRITAR and Nigeria's 2020 Vision

DESTINATION 2020 & PROJECT 3I3R (pronounced TRITAR)

The Vision 2020 being touted by the President Umar Yar' Adua's led administration is very laudable and inspiring. It is a vision, big enough to excite, clear enough to motivate and sufficiently specific to be measurable. However, when one considers the current direction of the administration's policy and the general pace of growth and activities within the country, it seems like a very unrealistic agenda; a mere tantalizing mirage to soothe the psyche of Nigerians, perhaps with the intent of diverting our attention away from the present by riveting the imagination on a distant fantastic future.

Be that as it may, the Vision 2020 is not unachievable; Nigeria has the potential to become one of the world's top 20 economies and to become a significant force to reckon with both in international economics and politics. We are endowed with an abundance of resources, natural and human but we lack a decisive and strategic leadership to harness the immense resource within the country and convert potential to possibilities.

I

Alas, the word peer does not refer to I
Which mere mortal can peer into my minds eye?
To then declare me their simile
When their catalyst to me is mere stimuli

Alas, the term 'fit in' cannot apply to me
And I cant be mediocre, hard as I try to be
cos the mere idea of mass appeal revolts me
As I Nurture my uniqueness, the key that unbolts me

Alas the brand me is what I've come to be
Shaped but not created by all that life has done to me
Prepared, for my future to come to me....
...cos I'm already who I want to be!

Ssshpeaak so I can hear you...

your sound is wrapped around me this quiet night
its only your voice i hear
I speak to you since there's no one else in sight
but my words, they disappear

gloomy you seem this evening to me
almost usual these days
you're no longer what i know you to be
even though you'd never change your ways

less calming, more ire
don't draw me into the flames, put out that fire
agitating and choler
broken by strident neighbours when they holla

disconnected by discotheques and pulpits alike
you seem much closer when i cant see the light
with sentences drawn out like middle east violence
speak so i can hear you, Silence.

The Evolution of Wackness

Art keeps running, but wackness runs after
And when art saunters, wackness runs faster
When art soars, wackness slides a tackle
When art's floored, wackness cracks a cackle

I found Art sighing, cos wackness seems stronger
Wackness is done, but Art's working longer
Art is shocked cos wackness seems so simple
He worries about nothing, she worries about a pimple

Art and Wackness, strange bedfellows
Destined to doom from when they exchanged hellos
Art decides to put a stop to the darkness
And curses the day she fell in love with wackness

So she packs a suitcase, and heads to Kent
To start anew, with lessons learnt
She sets a date with her hair dressers
And goes to shop for brand new sweaters

She crawls to bed feeling brand new

Inside

Inside
these scars
reside

Inside
these feelings
hide

Inside
I keep them
tied

Denied
their cries
decried

To hide
these tears
i've lied

but disguised,
this pain
cant subside

despite
how hard
i've tried

Each night
the tears
are my bride

I'm tired
no more
gotta decide!

My insides
each time
push joy aside

Inside
I chide,
Let peace reside

ride
through the great
divide

false pride
collide
with cyanide

deride
my mind
from suicide

let the lakeside
outside
calm the turbulence
inside

right now.

please.

hmmm.

David.

Igede... the last ones left!

Its 2:00am and normally, I should be asleep. But I'm not. I sit awake pondering on the fate of our people. My journey over the last weekend through the niger delta has left an indelible mark on my consciousness. The challenge of rural Nigeria is not one that can be solved by money alone. The first and most important element is the awakening of the minds of the people, through effective leadership and guidance, towards entrenching the tenets of self empowerment, industry and hardwork. This has been the story of emerging nations such as India, China and Singapore.
